CPA is launching a new electric vehicle smart charging program designed to help customers in Los Angeles County and Ventura County save money by charging their vehicles at the most cost-effective time.
CPA’s EV SmartCharge is an app-based program that controls vehicle charging to automatically occur during off-peak periods when electricity demand and costs are lower. Once activated in the app, Smart Charging optimizes customer vehicle charging for the cheapest, greenest energy available, while always achieving a customer-determined minimum amount of vehicle range.
Administered by ev.energy, this program helps users save money on their electricity bill and helps them qualify for monthly incentives available through EV SmartCharge, with CPA customers able to receive up to $260 in benefits in their first year of enrolling in the program.
When customers arrive home, they are now able to simply plug in their EV or plug-in hybrid and set a ‘ready time’ in the app. CPA will then schedule the EV to charge when energy costs are at their lowest.
It is estimated that there will be over 1.2M electric vehicles in CPA territory by 2045. As adoption of electric vehicles grows, energy usage from EV charging is also projected to increase.
The EV SmartCharge Program will help customers manage the load associated with EV charging in a way that keeps their costs low while supporting a more reliable electrical grid.
Customers with electric vehicles are also able to utilize CPA’s Time of Use Prime (TOU) program. TOU PRIME was specifically created for households with electric vehicles or plug-in hybrid vehicles, a residential battery, or an electric heat pump system for water or space heating, providing local communities with lower off-peak charging rates which helps to reduce charging costs.
