CPA is committed to partnering with community groups and trade unions to help develop the local renewable energy workforce for today, while preparing the next generation for future green economy jobs.
As part of that focus on workforce development, we have provided funding to two training programs in Los Angeles County and Ventura County – the Los Angeles Electrical Training Institute (ETI) and the Ventura County Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (VCEJATC).
Recently, the VCEJATC hosted its annual Electrical Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremony in the City of Ventura, featuring a total of 16 electrical apprentices graduating from the five-year program.
Ventura County Supervisor Vianey Lopez, who serves as CPA’s Ventura County Vice-Chair of the CPA Board of Directors was in attendance for the ceremony, in addition to CPA staff.
CPA has provided more than $1 million to support skills training over the past four years including funding for microgrid maintenance and smart building cyber security training at the Los Angeles Clean Tech Incubator (LACI), Los Angeles Electrical Training Institute, and the VCEJATC program in Ventura County.
Funding includes support for 17 classroom training devices that provide hands-on learning for 200 students and training devices for the ‘smart buildings’ portion of the VCEJATC program.
The CPA Board will consider a second phase of funding for workforce training at its upcoming July Board meeting.
