CPA’s New Rooftop Solar Projects Provide Discounted Renewable Energy to Disadvantaged Communities

Clean Energy Sources

Clean Power Alliance’s Power Share program has launched four new projects that will provide renewable rooftop solar energy to residential customers living in disadvantaged communities.

Power Share provides income-qualified customers living in underserved communities with 100% renewable energy at a 20% discount on their total monthly electric bill. The program promotes energy equity, giving residents the opportunity to join their community and work together in reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) that can impact health and quality of life.

The newly installed four megawatt (MW) projects, with three located in Carson and one project located in Hawthorne, represent just a portion of the 18.285 MW of capacity CPA has committed to building through this program, which is enough energy to power over 10,000 homes each year. An additional 3.27 MW of capacity will come online in 2026.

Power Share is CPA’s public facing name for the California Public Utility Commission’s Disadvantaged Community Green Tariff (DAC-GT). Through Power Share, CPA purchases energy from local small-scale renewable energy projects located within Disadvantaged Communities (DACs) and provides that energy to eligible customers at reduced rates.

Power Share participants save on average $172 per year on their energy electricity bills while helping to reduce emissions in their community’s local environment.

To date, Power Share customers have avoided more than 16.3 million pounds of GHGs and saved over $1.3 million on their electricity bills. Customers participating in Power Share in 2025 will help to avoid more than 26 million pounds of GHGs, which is equivalent to removing 2,680 gas-powered cars off the road for one year, or growing more than 198,000 tree seedlings for 10 years.

These emissions reductions underscore the impact each individual customer can make, and how collectively we can make a long-term impact that will transform communities, environmental health and residents’ overall quality of life.

Power Share projects have created over 100 new clean energy industry jobs. As CPA continues to launch new solar projects, it will create additional local jobs in the clean energy industry.
