About the program

As part of Clean Power Alliance’s core programming to reduce California’s dependence on fossil fuels, CPA launched the Energized Communities program in April 2024. Energized Communities will assist our partner communities in reaching their sustainability and decarbonization goals by providing financial and technical support, focused on implementing electrification projects across CPA’s service territory. This program is designed to empower CPA communities and lead the way toward a more sustainable future. Energized Communities projects will provide tangible pathways to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote resiliency, and ensure a healthier environment while creating jobs in the green economy.

Energized Communities is made up of two parts: Pathways to Electrification, offering pre-selected measures to support electrification, and the Innovation Fund which will provide funding for creative decarbonization projects in our communities. Both the Pathways to Electrification and Innovation Fund projects may receive up to $250,000 per project. Funding for technical support and incentives will be available over three years to advance decarbonization and support resiliency and grid management, electrification, and local procurement in our partner communities.

How to Participate

  1. Partner communities select from one of the three project areas, and/or submit a project application for the Innovation Fund. Each CPA community is eligible to enroll in one Pathways to Electrification project and submit an Innovation Fund application for consideration.
  2. CPA and participating partner communities will develop a participation agreement to align program priorities and set expectations for the proposed scope of work.
  3. Partner communities may need to work with their city council or board of supervisors to seek approval to apply for this program and receive funds from CPA. Please contact our team to learn more.

Pathways to Electrification

Choose one project per partner community

Scope:
Partner communities choose one project from the three pathways:
  • Building Electrification Assistance
  • Community Electric Vehicle Charging
  • Electric Fleet Transition services.
Benefit:
Technical services are procured and managed by CPA for simple, quick deployment.
Funding of up to $250,000 per project is allocated to each partner community for completing one of the selected pathways.

Innovation Fund

Scope:
Partner communities submit an application for a decarbonization project that falls outside of the scope of the three Pathways to Electrification pillars. Members may submit more than one application, however this is a competitive funding opportunity and selected Partner Communities will receive funding for no more than one project per funding cycle. Sample projects could include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Electrification for Affordable Housing
  • Transition to Zero-Emission Equipment
  • Creative EV Charging projects
  • Permit Streamlining to Support Electrification Projects
Benefit:
Up to $250,000 in funding to support decarbonization projects in CPA’s service territory.
