Clean Power Alliance is proud to provide clean, renewable energy options to communities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties. These options include wind, geothermal, solar, and small hydroelectric and often include energy storage to ensure reliable energy supply and competitive rates for our customers. In 2025, CPA’s overall portfolio is expected to be about 75% renewable energy.
Since CPA began operations, our customers have prevented more than 13.8 billion pounds of harmful greenhouse gas emissions. Collectively this is equivalent to more than 1.4 million automobiles being taken off the road every year, or nearly 103 million tree seedlings being planted and grown for 10 years.
Since CPA began operations, our customers have prevented more than 4.6 billion pounds of harmful greenhouse gas emissions. Collectively this is equivalent to 455,000 automobiles being taken off the road every year, or nearly 35 million tree seedings being planted and grown for 10 years.
Wind energy is harnessed by turning large turbines with naturally flowing air in the Earth's atmosphere. The spinning turbines transform the wind into electricity.
Solar electricity is generated when sunlight hits solar panels. Sunlight contains photons that form an electrical circuit within a solar panel that generates electricity.
Geothermal energy is heat derived below the earth’s surface which can be harnessed by turbines to generate clean, renewable energy.
Hydroelectric energy from small projects is a form of renewable energy that uses the power of moving water to generate electricity. Hydroelectric facilities that are smaller than 30 MW capacity are eligible renewable energy resources and are referred to as “eligible hydroelectric”.
Hydroelectric energy is a form of carbon free energy that uses the power of moving water to generate electricity. Hydroelectric facilities that are greater than 30 MW capacity have other environmental consequences and are therefore not considered to be an eligible renewable energy resource.
Biowaste electricity is generated or produced by food waste, wastewater, manure, biogas, and organic wastes from industrial operations. The energy from these substances can be heated or converted into electricity through natural processes.
Unspecified energy is the amount of energy not specifically claimed by a utility, where the original source of energy cannot be determined or specified in a contract. It can also be called “system power” and often is imported from outside California.

*The Green-e® Energy Standard requires that renewable electricity and RECs generated in or delivered to California must be matched with greenhouse gas (GHG) emission allowances retired on behalf of the generation. This ensures that California customers are using renewable electricity or RECs that contribute to GHG reductions above and beyond what is required by state regulatory policies. In 2024, the pool of free voluntary allowances from the state’s Voluntary Renewable Energy Program (VREP) was depleted, and there is uncertainty around when more allowances will become available. The Green-e® Governance Board has approved a waiver allowing Green-e® certified products with VREP-eligible 2024 supply to not procure GHG allowances. As a result, California allowances were not retired on behalf of calendar year 2024 renewable MWh generation provided to Commercial and Industrial customers who have opted into the program and Residential customers in the Power Share program, and it therefore supported compliance with state GHG reduction programs rather than going above and beyond statewide emissions regulations. To learn more about VREP, please visit the California Air Resources Board’s website. To learn more about Green-e® certification, please visit green-e.org
Clean Power Alliance periodically seeks to purchase wholesale electric energy and capacity from generators and suppliers, including local renewable and carbon-free energy. If you are interested in seeing our open contracting opportunities, please visit our Contracting Opportunities.
