CPA Expands Sun Storage Rebate Program Incentive, Offering Up to $3,500 for Battery Storage Systems

CPA Programs

Clean Power Alliance is expanding the financial incentive in its Sun Storage Rebate Program to encourage residential customers to make the most of renewable energy by adding battery storage to augment their home solar panels.

The program is designed to help reduce the upfront cost of battery storage and make it easier for customers to maximize the benefits of their solar investment. Adding battery storage to an existing or new solar PV system can help customers use more of their own solar energy, reduce reliance on electricity during peak-demand periods and keep essential appliances, including lights and air conditioning, running during power outages.

To help promote the installation of battery storage systems, CPA has increased the base incentive for the Sun Storage Rebate from $750 to $2,000. Eligible CPA residential customers can now receive the $2,000 base rebate for installing a qualifying battery storage system paired with solar photovoltaic (PV) panels. Additional incentives are available for qualifying customers, bringing the total rebate to as much as $3,500.

Since the program launched in 2024, CPA has provided more than $330,000 in rebates to 270 customers and has committed $1.62 million in rebate funding for the current fiscal year.

By increasing the use of locally generated renewable energy, battery storage can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower electricity costs and provide greater energy reliability for households.

Customers in areas frequently affected by Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events may qualify for the Reliability+ incentive of up to $1,250 and an additional $250 incentives are available for customers receiving the Medical Baseline allowance or CARE or FERA bill assistance, although the medical qualified and income qualified incentives cannot be combined.

More than 1,200 battery storage systems are currently eligible for the CPA rebate.

To qualify, customers must be active CPA residential customers and install a battery storage system with a capacity of at least 5 kWh that is paired with a solar PV system and listed on California’s SGIP verified equipment list. The system must also be installed by a contractor licensed by the California Contractors State License Board.

Customers may apply for the incentive before installation or within three months after installing an eligible system. Rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis while funding remains available.
