Celebrating National Small Business Month: CPA Programs Support Local Commercial Customers

CPA Programs

Each May, CPA celebrates National Small Business Month, an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the entrepreneurs and dedicated business leaders who power local economies and drive innovation across the country.

First established by the U.S. Small Business Administration in 1963, National Small Business Month was created to highlight the critical role small businesses play in shaping communities and driving national economic growth. Making up an overwhelming 99.9% of all businesses in the United States, the 33 million small businesses nationwide employ nearly half of the private-sector workforce and have generated approximately 65% of net new jobs over the past 20 years.

Across Southern California, that story is especially visible.

From family-owned restaurants and neighborhood retailers to logistics firms and clean tech startups, small and medium-sized businesses power the economic engine of the region.

Clean Power Alliance is proud to serve approximately 118,000 small and medium businesses across Los Angeles and Ventura counties, offering several programs tailored to our commercial customers.

This includes access to our Green Leaders program, a network of public agencies and local businesses on CPA’s 100% Green Power energy option that share a commitment to making Southern California cleaner, healthier and more resilient. Green Leaders receive a variety of complimentary program benefits including recognition of their commitment, a promotional toolkit to share their designation as a Green Leader, a business listing on CPA’s website and opportunities to be featured in CPA’s social media and newsletter.

Through our complimentary Energy Team service, small businesses can get personalized expert guidance on electrification opportunities, support navigating contractor selection and help accessing available money-saving rebates. With our Power Response Commercial Leaders program, local businesses can receive incentives to actively reduce their electricity use during times of higher than projected energy demand.

CPA is also expanding its commitment to economic inclusion by increasing access to contracting opportunities for diverse and local businesses. Through targeted outreach and direct engagement, CPA aims to ensure that the benefits of the clean energy transition are shared broadly, creating new pathways for small businesses to participate in and benefit from the growing green economy.

As we celebrate National Small Business Month, CPA recognizes that small businesses are not just economic drivers; they are community anchors and essential partners in building a more sustainable future. By supporting their success, and empowering their clean energy choices, CPA is helping to strengthen both the local economy and California’s path toward long-term climate goals.
