New CPA Wildfire Resource Webpage Helps Southern California Communities Prepare, Recover and Rebuild

CPA Happenings

Clean Power Alliance continues to deepen its long-term partnership with the communities it serves by taking a proactive, community-first approach to wildfire preparedness, recovery and resilience.

To further that goal, CPA has launched a new, comprehensive webpage that provides details on key customer programs and offerings, practical resources and community-focused initiatives that help customers prepare for wildfire threats, respond during emergencies and recover in the aftermath.

One of the spotlighted resources is CPA’s Energy Team service, which can assist customers with personalized guidance on home hardening, a method to increase a home’s resistance to flame intrusion or embers projected by wildfire. Energy Team specialists evaluate a home’s unique characteristics, such as roofing, vents, siding, windows, decks and surrounding vegetation, and then provide tailored recommendations to address the most vulnerable areas.

The home hardening assessment is conducted virtually and includes resiliency recommendations for homes that may be prone to Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events and are provided in conjunction with an energy usage review.

CPA customers also have access to the Sun Storage Rebate program. Sun Storage Rebate has supported the installation of over 300 kWh of battery storage systems, providing customers with access to back up power systems that can be used during outages. Increased incentives are available to eligible customers in areas that have a higher risk of PSPS events.

At the community level, CPA provided funding for wildfire training for contractors, builders and residents, investing $50,000 in the U.S. Green Building Council California’s (USGBC-CA) Wildfire Defense Education program. This program provides local contractors and industry professionals with wildfire recovery training and resources.

This funding is part of a one-year agreement with USGBC-CA and supports USGBC-CA’s Wildfire Defense Professional Certificate Program and the Wildfire Defense Rebuilding Support and Recovery Resources website. The certificate identifies key early decisions that homeowners and building professionals will face and provides guidance on options for rebuilding and fire-hardening. This course is developed in partnership with Arup and the Wildfire Defense Advisory Committee.

To provide immediate support to local communities impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires, CPA and Calpine Community Energy, CPA’s customer support and billing services provider, dedicated $50,000 to organizations in Los Angeles County and Ventura County communities. Funds were allocated to the Rotary Club of Altadena, the Boys and Girls Club of Malibu, the Topanga Coalition for Emergency Preparedness and the Ventura County Community Foundation.

Additionally, CPA participated in the Ribbon Commission on Climate Action and Fire-Safe Recovery to facilitate rebuilding quickly with climate conditions and risks in mind. This was an independent commission, convened by Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath in collaboration with UCLA. The commission’s 173-page report details over 50 recommendations across 10 broad categories that provide actionable recommendations for resilient rebuilding.

Through these efforts and resources, CPA continues to demonstrate its commitment to long-term community resilience, environmental stewardship and equitable access to tools that support safety, sustainability and economic recovery across the region.
