Clean Power Alliance recently received two honors for our work advancing renewable energy projects and sustainability initiatives in local communities.
CPA was honored by Active San Gabriel Valley (Active SGV) with an outstanding public agency award for its work to strengthen the communities in the San Gabriel Valley. The award celebrates CPA’s work as a model for how public agencies can lead the transition to a carbon-free power system while making clean energy accessible and affordable. CPA was distinguished as part of Active SGV’s Noche de las Luminarias event, which celebrated organizations, companies and individuals contributing to the sustainability and wellbeing of the San Gabriel Valley.
The special evening brought together advocates, organizations, public agencies and city staff who are working every day to create healthier, safer and more connected communities. CPA was one of eight honorees recognized for their efforts, and CPA’s Chief Executive Ted Bardacke accepted the award on our behalf.
CPA was also honored with the prestigious Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) Environmental Team Leadership Award for its collaboration on the historic SunZia Wind and Transmission Project at the annual LABC Sustainability Summit.
At over 3.5 gigawatts, the project will deliver up to 3,000 megawatts of clean electricity to California and Arizona. The project will have a capacity of about 50% greater than Hoover Dam and will produce nearly triple the annual power generation of Hoover.
Together with the SunZia Transmission Line, this $8 billion project will be the single largest renewable energy infrastructure project ever constructed in the United States. CPA will be a primary recipient of energy from the project, contracting for 23% of SunZia’s overall capacity. SunZia will produce enough energy to power approximately three million homes. Customers across CPA’s 38 member communities in Los Angeles and Ventura counties will benefit directly from this reliable, affordable and renewable power source.
