CPA’s EV SmartCharge program is an EV smart charging program administered by ev.energy. Smart charging optimizes your charging to automatically occur during off-peak times when electricity demand is lower. Smart charging helps you save money on your electricity bill, and helps you qualify for monthly incentives available through EV SmartCharge.
When activated in the ev.energy app, Smart Charging optimizes your charging for the cheapest, greenest energy available.
To enable smart charging, select the Smart tab in the app and scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the ‘Turn on smart charging’ button.
Once you enable smart charging you can set your ready by time. The ready by time ensures your vehicle is ready for when you need it. This is set to 7 am every day by default, but you can override this on a one-off basis or set a Weekly Schedule.
There are estimated to be over 1.2M electric vehicles in CPA territory by 2045. As adoption of electric vehicles grows, energy usage from EV charging is also projected to increase. The EV SmartCharge Program will support customers by managing the load associated with EV charging in a way that keeps costs low and helps support a more reliable electrical grid.
Electricity prices on Time-of-Use (TOU) rate plans are based on the time of day and the season. “Off-Peak” times are when prices are lower during the day when clean, inexpensive solar power is abundant. “Peak” times are when it is most costly, on weekdays between the hours of 4pm and 9pm when the sun has gone down and more polluting fossil-fuel generation is used.
To begin enrollment in the EV SmartCharge program, you simply need to have an eligible EV or smart charger at your home, have home Wi-Fi to connect, and be a residential CPA customer.

Both enrollment and monthly participation incentives are paid by the 15th of the month following when they are earned. In order to receive your incentive payment, please remember to input your Venmo or PayPal payment information in the ‘Incentives’ tab of the app. In the event you don’t have a Venmo/PayPal account, please contact our support team at cleanpoweralliance@ev.energy
Please begin by filling out the web form. Once complete, you’ll be directed to download the ev.energy app and go through the onboarding process by entering your vehicle or charger manufacturer credentials. ev.energy or CPA do not see or store your username or password. Once you enter your credentials, we instantly exchange them with the vehicle or charger manufacturer for a secure token that allows ev.energy and CPA to optimize your charging. This token is stored securely and encrypted on ev.energy’s cloud platform, hosted by Amazon Web Services. You can revoke access to your vehicle at anytime by clicking ‘un-link’ in the settings page.
If you need to override your charging schedule and charge immediately, tap the ‘Boost’ button on the dashboard. This will allow you to charge your vehicle immediately. Please note, we only manage charging at home; so you are able to charge on the go anytime!

Contact cleanpoweralliance@ev.energy requesting to withdraw from the program. We’ll delete the secure token that grants us access to the vehicle or charger you registered in the app.
