Clean Power Alliance applauds Governor Newsom for the bold and necessary actions he has taken today in phasing out the sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035. Air pollution from vehicles affects us all but disproportionately impacts people living in disadvantaged communities, who suffer higher rates of asthma and lung cancer as a result. As transportation is the largest source of California’s greenhouse gas emissions, zero emission vehicles will be crucial to achieving clean air and curbing climate change to benefit all Californians.
Clean Power Alliance is ready to support the Governor’s action through new programs and investments that will make it easier for our customers to drive a zero-emission vehicle. In the coming months, CPA will launch a program to increase the number of publicly available electric vehicle charging stations in Southern California and many of them will be located in disadvantaged communities. We will continue to expand the supply of renewable energy and energy storage so that these vehicles can be powered by reliable, pollution-free energy.
